Estilos parentales percibidos e Inteligencia Emocional en adolescentes bolivianos

Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived parental styles and emotional intelligence (EI) in a sample of Bolivian adolescents. It involved 175 high school students between 13 and 17 years of age. The results indicate that the sample has deficits in emotional skills, and that older adolescents have better emotional perception than younger ones. Also, most students perceive negligent and permissive parenting styles in their parents, with males perceiving greater control and supervision by their parents. Students who report a mixed parenting style have better IEs than those who perceive a permissive style. Finally, a positive relationship was found between control/supervision in parenting and emotional facilitation of EI. This knowledge about the factors that influence EI levels may be useful to favor its development.
