Benefits and difficulties of interdisciplinary work, from the perspective of mental health professionals who work in public health institutions in the city of Mar del Plata.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the benefits and difficulties of interdisciplinary work, from the perspective of mental health professionals who work as a team with other professionals. For this, a cross-sectional study was carried out with qualitative methodology, of an exploratory nature, in which 15 psychologists who work in public health institutions in the city of Mar del Plata - Argentina were interviewed.
From the analysis of the interviews carried out, it is observed that these professionals find in interdisciplinary work the possibility of comprehensively covering health, as well as being able to count on a team that generates listening and containment spaces before a work that, in many opportunities, is characterized by urgency and complexity. Likewise, they find in interdisciplinary work the difficulty of communication that can be generated by differences in language (between the different disciplines), as well as the difference in how certain concepts are conceived within the field of health, and the persistence of the medical model hegemonic in some aspects of interdisciplinary practices. We discuss and reflect on these results, which allow us to think about the importance and complexity of interdisciplinary work and, with it, the value it has in undergraduate and postgraduate training.
