COVID-19: Relationships during isolation
Are there couples who stayed together in that critical period?
Abstract
The pandemic and the consequent mandatory confinement directly affected people's lives and their relationships. Among these, couple relationships have encountered multiple challenges. In order to investigate the impact of isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic on couple relationships in the Argentine population, a descriptive study was carried out with 2,562 people. Of these, 2,283 respondents were in a relationship before confinement. 79.5% stayed together during isolation, 53% have been together for more than 10 years, and 60% have common children. The resources that helped them stay together as they were: good communication, respecting spaces of personal intimacy, affective manifestations, shared activities, sexual relations.
The conclusions obtained are intended to be useful in the design of future lines of prevention in clinical practice, and intervention for couples who arrive in a crisis situation, seeking to stimulate marital resilience.
