Abstract

Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire: Spanish adaptation and validation in Argentina, Buenos Aires. Experiential avoidance has been identified as an underlying process involved in the emergence and maintenance of various psychopathologies and has become a highly relevant construct for mental health. This paper presents the adaptation and validation of the Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (MEAQ; Gámez et al., 2011), to be used in the general population of Buenos Aires. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 750 subjects between 18 and 72 years of age. After comparing different models analysed with confirmatory factor analysis, the adapted version ended up with 46 items that fit the six original dimensions. Internal consistency was adequate (α = .917; ω = .976). An analysis of the discriminatory ability of the items, evidence of convergent and discriminant validity and differences according to age, gender and educational level are also presented. The adaptation of the MEAQ to Argentinean Spanish represents a valid and reliable tool to measure different aspects of experiential avoidance.
