Abstract

The purpose of this study was to address more rigorously the psychometric properties of the Personal Self-Determination Scale in an Argentinean sample. For this purpose, construct validity was studied by means of a Confirmatory Factor Analysis and criterion validity through the relationship with the Satisfaction of Basic Psychological Needs in Relationships Scale. The sample consisted of 343 people (21.6 % men and 78.4 % women). Their ages ranged from 18 to 63 years old and participants were residents of different cities in Argentina. The CFA ratified the results obtained by the original authors, who understand the scale as composed of two factors. Pearson's analysis yielded statistically significant associations between the variables. It is concluded that the instrument that assesses personal self-determination has appropriate psychometric properties to be used in the Argentinean context.
